Navigating UWG library resources and research

Book is checked out

If the library book you want is checked out, first check the UWG Library Catalog for other versions of the book. Sometimes the UWG Library has more than one copy or version of an item.

If UWG does not have another copy, see if there is a copy available at another USG (University System of Georgia) campus. First set the search to "University System of Georgia" by using the drop-down search menu. Then follow these instructions.

To request a book via GIL Express

(GIL Express is a service through which you can borrow a book from another USG Library.)

  • Search for the book in the USG Catalog. After finding the book title in the catalog, click "Check holdings."
  • Click the "Sign in" link (under "Get It"). Enter your UWG username and password.
  • Click the institution from which you wish to borrow and wait for a moment for more information to populate. Look for the "Request It" link.
  • Click the "Request It" link and place your request.

Interlibrary Loan

If no USG Libraries have the book, request it through interlibrary loan (which is also known as Resource Sharing). Log onto ILLiad (if you have never used ILLiad before you will need to click on First Time User to create an account). Our Resource Sharing office will ask other libraries to lend us a copy on your behalf. You will receive an email when the item is available for you to pick up.
