Kaia Alderson is a historical women’s fiction author with a passion for uncovering the “hidden figures” of African-American women’s history. She focuses on the stories of women who defied social, racial, and gender norms—often at great personal risk—because she believes their experiences mirror those of present-day Black women and offer strategies for overcoming challenges that still persist in society and the workplace.

Her debut historical women’s fiction novel, Sisters in Arms (William Morrow/HarperCollins, 2021), tells the story of the 6888th, the only all-Black women’s battalion in World War II. Under the name Kaia Danielle, she has also published romantic comedy and historical romance works, along with several comic short stories. Her work has been featured on Book Riot and Bustle.

Kaia is an alumna of Spelman College and the University of West Georgia. She has participated in writing workshops through Callaloo Journal, Voices of Our Nation (VONA), Hurston/Wright Foundation, Kweli Journal, and The Second City. She is represented by Kevan Lyon of the Marsal Lyon Literary Agency.

Her latest novel, In a League of Her Own, continues her mission of bringing hidden histories to light by telling the story of Effa Manley, the trailblazing business manager of the Newark Eagles Negro Leagues baseball team. Kaia will share more about this inspiring work during her upcoming visit to UWG.
